The dholki is handmade Indian musicals instrument, super fine quality mango wood dholak drums, natural wood finish, comes with gig bag, tuning spanner special skin, nice sound, easy to carry.

Dholak Or Dholki

The dholak is basically a double headed drum with the bass head on one side and the treble head on the other.

The left hand is also a single membrane with a special application on the inner surface. This application is a mixture of tar, clay and sand (dholak masala) which lowers the pitch and provides a well-defined tone. On the treble drum side, there is no putty added.

The rope and nut and bolt version of the dholak is a more modern and better created version of the Dholak or a dholki.

The Dholk has been decorated with a rope.

Dholak drums for every level e.g. for infants an intro drum, for ladies a lightweight drum to play.

The dholak is a two-headed hand-drum.

In this dholk first case steel rings are used for tuning or pegs are twisted inside the laces.

The dholak drum is pitched, depending on size, with an interval of perhaps a perfect fourth or perfect fifth between the two heads.

It is related to the larger dhol and the smaller dholki.

Usage

It is used in devotional bhajans and keertans Or Prabhat Pheri (Punjabi)

The dholak's higher-pitched head is a simple membrane while the bass head, played usually with the left hand, has a compound syahi to lower the pitch and enable the typical Dholak sliding sound ("giss" or "gissa"), often the caked residue of mustard oil pressing, to which some sand and oil or tar may be added.

Playing style

The drum is either played on the player's lap or, while standing, slung from the shoulder or waist or pressed down with one knee while sitting on the floor.

In some styles of playing (such as Punjab) an iron thumb ring is used to produce a distinctive "chak" rim sound. In other styles (such as Rajasthani), all fingers are generally used.
