Chaur Sahib is an implement normally found next to the Manji or Peera or Palki Sahib where the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is placed during the day within the Gurdwara's Darbar Sahib (Main Hall).
The Chaur is used to fan the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as a sign of reverence and respect for the scriptures. The Sevadar (volunteer) respectfully waves the Chaur Sahib above the Guru Sahib as a sign of respect and dedication. In the Gurdwara Sahib Worship place, any Sikh man, women, or child, may perform Chaur Sahib seva at any time while the scripture is open in Prakash.
Chaur Sahib is a required article to be kept in the vicinity of where ever Guru Granth Sahib Ji is placed.
These days, the chaur sahib may be any size and is usually made of a Nylon hair, that is fixed to a simple or decorative wooden, or metallic, handle.
The chawar is used for all spiritual puja and arti. This is very auspicious and is considered for increasing positive environment also to give respect to the deities and the holy or religious scriptures.
